This Mask is Not Me

"So once you find that special person, you're pretty much together forever?" He asked curiously. He had already given up on his dream of ever having Shaye, but this was a once in a life time oppertunity to find out the true facts about vampires.
"Wow" He said, pulling his knees to his chest, stunned.


Shaye curled up on the couch, staring into the fire. She was irritated beyond belief. She stared at the flames, completely forgetting the danger.

Vaix gave a nod, scratching the side of his head absent mindedly as he yawned again, not helping but to reveal his incisors as he did so. He hadn't meant it, it had just been a big yawn. He pulled his legs to his chest as he sat in the far corner from Chris. "It's not to bad. You love the person to death, they love you back just the same. If one dies, the other will die shortly after out of a broken heart." He shrugged, as if it were no big deal at all.

"So how long did you know you loved Shaye? I mean you only started going out recently, but odviously you cared about her before that" He said, wincing a bit at Vaix's fangs. He was used to the idea, but it still freaked him out a bit. He stretched out, pressing his back against the wall and waiting for Vaix's answer.

Shaye yawned, the warmth of the fire was making her sleepy, on top of the blood loss. Despite her instincts, she drifted to sleep on the couch, the fire roaring in the fire place next to her.

Vaix blinked, looking over at Chris, "to be honest? To moment I saw her I like her. Keith, a vampire you don't know, brought her home one day. She was mortal back then. I'm sure she was with us for a couple years before her being turned. Something like that, it just clicks inside you. You see the girl, and at the moment you don't want to be without her."

"Wow really?" Chris said, shocked. He sighed, he didn't know anything about love, but he liked to hear about it.
"So uh, this might be a bit personal. But what's she like?" He asked, smiling a bit. Shaye seemed really cool, but so far he hadn't had a chance to get to know her at all.

Vaix smiled, leaning back against the wall, "perfect." He said back, "she's absolutely perfect. I'm sure she'd put angels to shame with the kindness she has, the patients. It makes me wonder how I ever lived without her really." He gave another sigh, though this one was more content and happy.

"Wow" Chris said admirably.
"It must be nice to find someone like that. My ex cheated on me" He said, sighing and stretching out.
"And Lana is no help, she's definately sort of bratty" Chris said, sighing.

Flames sparked higher, some flying out of the fire place and landed on the carpet.
Some of the sparks caught, fire begining to burn around Shaye. She yawned, warmed and comfortable. Suddenly she gasped, a painfilled scream coming from her. Flames licked up her arm, burning her instantly.

Vaix gave a nod, and had been about to reply when he heard Shaye scream. He bounded down the stairs, his eye bulging at the smell of fire and ash. "Shaye!" he cried as he entered the living room, his eyes wide in terror as he stood frozen in fear at the sigh of the fire. He took a half step back, then whined sharply and took off into the kitchen.

Shaye stood on the couch, her arm badly burnt.
"Help" She cried, flames reaching higher and higher around her. The fire had been so small when she had fallen asleep, how had it grown so much.

Chris glanced around, seeing Lana in the corner, a small smile on her face.
"What did you do?" He demaned, he had ran after Vaix to see what had happened, and the fact that his sister was so happy scared him.
"Nothing, I wa cold, I just made the fire bigger" She said innocently.

Vaix had gone to the kitchen, had grabbed the first large thing that held water and had filled it as quickly as he could. The smell of ash triggering every instinct he had to run and hide, and get away. Soon he'd filled it, then run out and thrown it over the fire. Putting the bulk of it out and letting the water do it's job in putting out the smaller flames by spreading over the carpets. He went back into the kitchen again, just to douse the rugs one last time to make sure the fire wasn't planning to come back. Then crept over to Shaye slowly, "Shaye?" he whispered gently, still shaken with fear over the fire, "you okay?" He couldn't see her burnt arm yet, he was more focused on her face.

Shaye shuddered and shrugged her shoulders.
"I have no idea" She breathed, her eyes wide with shock.
"It was barely going when I fell asleep" She said, eyes staring at the fire place. How could such a harmless blaze gotten so out of control.

Chris gaped at his sister, shock etched on every part of his face.
"You could have killed someone" He whispered, wondering if Vaix was listening. If he knew Chris' twin had tried to kill or at the very least hurt his girlfriend, she was dead.

Vaix sighed and gave a weak nod, "alright." His arm slowly went for her hand, then stopped at the sight of abnormally dark skin. His hand snapped over and scooped up hers, turned her arm and looking at the scorge marks. He winced, knowing it would take a very long time to heal, and probably leave a scar afterwards too. He leaned forward and kissed Shaye's forehead sadly, then stood and headed into the kitchen again, getting a pan of cold water for Shaye to lay her hand in and help stop the burning she no doubt was going though.

Shaye glanced down at her arm, barely aware that she was burnt, and badly. She was in major shock. She watched Vaix, eyes still wide. She glanced back down at the burn, wincing a bit at the angry black scorch marks.
"Ow" She muttered, not because she felt pain, which she felt none, yet. But more because it was a natural reaction.

"What? All I did was try and warm up" Lana hissed defensively, although her joy-filled smirk told a story all it's own.
"She deserved it" She said, turning and walking up the stairs. She had claimed a bedroom and was now stretched out on the bed.

Keith sighed, he, Iggy and Roxa had finally managed to get to the hotel.
"Lets just find Shaye and Vaix and then relaxe" He muttered, shaking his head exahustedly.

Vaix gave a weak smile, in attempts to comfort her, then placed the pan in her lap and took her arm very lightly, and gently, placing it in the pan and wincing as black specks of skin came floating to the top. He kissed Shaye's forehead again, then lay his head on the couch, still kneeling on the floor beside her.

Iggy looked around in the hotel, then looked at Keith with a smile. The plane ride had gone well, against his plans however, he had not gotten to drive the plane. Everyone had seemed intent on stopping him, he bounced around the entrance room playfully, watching as Roxa rolled her eyes at him and made her way to the counter. "We're with Shaye and Vaix," she said blinking as the man explained they'd left a while ago, and let nothing but a number. She took the paper and handed it to Keith. "They left," she said curiously.

Shaye's phone which had been laying next to her suddenly rang. She stared at it for a moemnt, before reaching over and grabbing it.
"H-hello?" She stammered, shock still working her mind. "Oh, we're at a cabin, it's about halfway up the main hill" She nodded and snapped the phone shut.
"Keith, Iggy and Roxa are on their way" She said to Vaix, her lower lip trembling a bit. She was starting to come down from the shock, and hot pain was lancing through her arm.

Keith accepted the peice of paper from Roxa. Pulling out his phone he called the new number.
"Hey" He said, looking concerned, Shaye's voice sounded strange.
"Oh, okay we're on our way" He said, looking at Roxa and Iggy.
"They got a cabin, they're about halfway up the hill. Something's wrong though, at least with Shaye"

Vaix gave a soft sigh and nodded, "well at least something worked out fine." He been worried over Keith and the others, the fact they'd landed safe and sound was good to know. He watched Shaye's expression as it slowly moved from shocked to in pain. He winced at the sight of it and scooped up her good hand. "Would you like me to try to find some Ice?" Ice...there was mounds of snow hills outside and he had to look for ice? He would have laughed if it weren't for the situation.

"Oh," Roxa blinked worridly. "I hopes everythings okay." She started making her way to the door, Iggy bounding along playfully and full of energy, orbitting around her like a planet to the sun. She sighed and attempted to ignore it for now.

Keith followed after the others, his bag slung over his shoulder.
"Who knows with those too" He said rushing up the hill, seeing a small cabin nestled in a group of trees nearby.
"Come on" He said, walking over, glancing in the windows, and opening the door.
"Hello?' He called, stepping into the small boot room.

Shaye just looked at Vaix, her eyes welling up with tears.
"I-I don't know" She said, shocked. Keith's voice soon sounded through the house.
"Keith!" She called, her voice high pitched and unsteady.

Vaix gave a frown when tears pooled in Shaye's eyes, "hey." He said softly, sitting beside her with a sad expression. "I'll get you some snow love. It'll make you feel better..." he blinked when the door went off, and Keith's voice was heard, as well as a course of laughter. Vaix rolled his eyes and stood, walking over to the door. Then pausing and looking at the teens whom had been silently watching a ways away. "One minute Keith," he sighed as went over to them, "listen. On the other side of those door is the rest of my family. They're all vampires, and my brother is usually very hungry. You want to live, you stay quiet and let me introduce you as friends before your classified as a meal. Got it?" He heard Roxa knock and call to be let in. He sighed and gave them both a look before running over and opening the door. "Hey," he greeted. "Shaye's burnt herself, so don't startle her." He gave a glare at Iggy, then walked out, scooping up a handful of snow and walking back in with it, plopping it into the pan filled with cold water and Shaye's arm. He sat with Her and kissed her cheek. "A little better?" he asked softly.

"Burnt herself?" Keith said, dropping his bag on the floor and rushing into the room. Immediately the scent of burnt carpet reached his sensitve nostiles.
"Shaye?" He gasped, rushing around the couch and kneeling in front of his sister.
"What happened?" He breathed, reaching up and brushing a small tear from her pale cheek.

Chris sucked in a deep breath, "No she didn't" He muttered, glancing at Vaix. He knew he was supposed to stay quiet, but he couldn't. Shyae didn't burn herself, Lana had burned her.

Shaye jumped a bit at her brother's sudden appearance.
"Hey" She said weakly, her body shuddering.

Vaix sighed as Keith and Roxa dashed over to see if Shaye was alright, he let out a soft breath of air. Laying an arm around her quietly he kissed her cheek, the mound of snow he'd put if then pan covered up her burned arm, and he doubted Shaye wanted to move it to show Keith the damage. He kissed her cheek gently, and hummed in an attempt to calm her.

Iggy had not cared about Shaye, he gravitated straight to the new people, popping up randomly behind Chris and laughing in the boy's ear. "Hellooo, mortal citizens, how art thou today?" He grinned, almost in a crazy creepout way, then laughed again and sat on the floor in front of them. "You both smell really nice? Did you know?"

Chris glanced at Iggy, an odd smile on his face.
"Uh, fine" He said, staring at the vampire with a bit of a shocked expression. He shoved his hands in his pockets and waited for Vaix to acknowledge him. He had expected more of a general shout when he had stated that Shaye had not burned herself.

"What did you say?" Keith demanded, suddenly rising and walking over to Chris.
"I said she didn't burn herself" He said softly, eyes at the floor. Keith scared him more then any of the others right now.
"What? Did you hurt her?" He demanded, right hand snaking out and grabbing Chris by the shirt.

Vaix flinched as Chris was grabbed and shaken like a doll, he jumped over and placed a hand on Keith's shoulder. "No Keith," he said calmly, "this is Chris, and his sister Lana. Chris was talking with me when it happened. He's just as surprised as the rest of us." He turned and gave Lana a glare he hadn't wanted to kill Lana, so he'd put himself in denial about the idea she'd done it. However, it was quite obvious she was to blame.

Iggy just watched negitive emotions pile around him and laughed happily and contently.

Keith's fingers relaxed on Chris' shirt.
"Oh, sorry" He said, looking at Vaix, a sheepish expression on his face.
"I'm Keith, Shaye's my sister" He said, as if he were trying to explain his actions.
"Oh, it's fine" Chris said, glancing at Vaix and confirming his look with a small nod.

Shaye had zoned out, trying to block out the pain. She was tired again, and her wrists hurt from where she had bitten them. Sighing, she curled up on the couch, falling asleep again. As she did so, she disloged the snow Vaix had put on her arm, revealing the painful burn.

Vaix glanced at Chris, then sighed glaring at Lana again, the looking over as Shaye fell on her side, Roxa was looking at Shaye's arm. He frowned, then looked back at Chris, giving him a warning look that clearly requested he control his sister or lose her. Then strolled off over to Shaye, sitting beside her on the couch and placing a hand on her side as she attempted to sleep. She hadn't lost any blood. But he guessed the shock had put her in a tired blackout state.

Keith's glance alternated between Shaye, Vaix, Chris and Lana.
"Who?" He asked, his eyes narrowed.
"I did" Lana said suddenly, her eyes narrowed and a vicious grin on her face. Keith's eyes narrowed in on the human girl.
"Why?' He demanded, his voice scaring her. "Uh..." Lana trailed off and hide behind Chris.

Shaye's eyelids fluttered, but she couldn't keep awake, she pitched foward again, curling onto her side and falling into a passed out slumber.
